February 2017 - Program Development & Training Officer

Major projects completed –

AmeriCorps Opioid Initiative: Hosted writing team meeting and developed survey to collect information regarding availability of and interest in current Recovery Coaches in state to participate as AC members in potential project.  Worked with contractor to structure basic budget and identified needed local cash contribution from participating agencies or third party funding

Service Enterprise:  Continued training of Service Enterprise cohort that began in January, hosting bi-weekly training sessions using the SE Curriculum and providing additional support between training sessions.  Added Cancer Community Center as formal trainee to the cohort and set up their Diagnostic.

AmeriCorps Affiliate: Met in person with two potential applicants to troubleshoot their program design and supported a third applicant in developing a possible model.  Outreach resulted in two applications (Oxford Hills and Brunswick School Departments) for the February deadline.

Began sending initial email notifications concerning the upcoming AmeriCorps Rural Initiative to past AC sites, organizations who have expressed interest in AmeriCorps the past and targeted agencies in the rim counties, offering to meet to assist with development of logic model(s).

Hosted CMV orientation and began proctoring of Winter session.

Participated in training for new paperless contracting system to be introduced in March

Issues to be aware of –

Opioid Initiative is struggling to identify local cash support. Participating organizations are resource poor and largely volunteer driven.  Model includes need for both adequate staffing and supervision as well as stipend supports for Recovery Coaches serving as members.  Federal portion cannot support both of these costs so local funds need to be developed.  Also potential challenge is emerging with identified applicant as parent organization is requiring cash coverage of all indirect costs.

Major focus of effort in the new month –

Identification of funding sources for Opioid Initiative and finalizing lead applicant so that application entry into application system can begin

Continue proctoring and instructing CMV and Service Enterprise training cohorts.

Begin intensive outreach for Rural AmeriCorps Initiative and supporting potential applicants.

Complete preparation for AmeriCorps Member Conference, scheduled for March 29th

Other activity –

Ongoing participation on conference planning team for National Service Regional Conference, scheduled for early June.

Regular AmeriCorps Technical Assistance to existing grantees via email, teleconference & face to face.

Staff support for E & E task Force

Procurement system management and initial entry of financial documents in state purchasing system, including purchase orders, bids, and contracts.
