Certified Volunteer Administrator Credential

Volunteer Maine encourages Maine volunteer leaders to pursue this credential through the self-study program and exam. The Commission supports individuals working on their CVA by partially funding the registration and exam cost through Volunteer Maine's Professional Development Fund.

The Council for the Certification of Volunteer Administration (CCVA) administers this program which is the only international professional certification in the field of volunteer resource management. CCVA promotes and certifies excellence in volunteer administration to advance the capacity of communities to effectively engage volunteers.

Individuals who want to earn this credential must meet these eligibility requirements:

  1. Minimum of the equivalent of three years full-time experience related to volunteer resources management. This experience can be a combination of several part-time positions, and can include both salaried and non-salaried roles.
  2. Minimum of 30 percent of current position related to volunteer resources management.
  3. Two letters of professional recommendation from supervisors or colleagues, verifying the candidate's activity in the field and his/her appropriateness as a candidate for this credential.

In 2023, seven Maine volunteer leaders were among the CVAs who support volunteers from Italy to Slovakia to Canada to Australia. Shouldn't you join them?!
