Britt Gleixner-Hayat is a public service leader with more than 15 years of experience designing and managing federally funded programs that promote civic engagement, volunteerism, and community resilience. Britt has led large-scale initiatives in complex environments, including a $50 million USAID program in Ethiopia that provided over 400 sub-grants to community organizations working to increase civic dialogue and volunteer-led change. In Yemen, she managed an $80 million program that supported local partners advancing youth engagement, volunteer leadership, and inclusive governance during a period of political transition. Her work has also taken her to Myanmar, India, Lebanon, Jordan, and Washington D.C., where she has trained staff and volunteers, facilitated cross-sector partnerships, and developed adaptive strategies for community-based service delivery.
Britt has coordinated volunteer teams and civic action campaigns, including voter protection and public engagement efforts. Her work consistently focuses on connecting people to purpose, whether through formal service programs or grassroots civic action. In addition to her professional experience, Britt has served as a mentor and trainer, supporting new leaders in the service sector and advancing a culture of responsive, community-centered engagement. She holds a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College. Now based in Maine, she brings a strong sense of public mission and collaborative leadership to her role, helping communities thrive through service.
Lucy Martin

Lucy oversees development and implementation of Maine’s Climate Corps Network and funded programs, coordinating with state and federal agencies to engage citizens as participants in the climate corps. She monitors developments in climate science and tactics for responding and represents the Commission on national climate corps coordinating committees as the Executive Director’s designee and advise the Executive Director on policies, practices, or legislative initiatives that will impact the success of the Maine’s Climate Corps.
Lucy holds a master's degree in Ecology and Environmental Sciences from the University of Maine and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, with an academic focus that includes conservation and social sciences and a graduate thesis on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Maine's outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. In addition to her experience in conservation, social science and fieldwork, Lucy also holds certifications in DEI, facilitation and science communication.
Maureen Kendzierski

Maureen joined Volunteer Maine in March of 2025. As the Volunteer Services Coordinator she is responsible for developing and managing the Maine Service Fellows program. She supports recruitment and mentorship of Service Fellows and provides training, technical assistance, and implementation support of the host site’s community projects.
Before moving to Maine, Maureen was the Regional Education Coordinator for the Collaborative for Educational Services’ DYS Education Initiative in the Boston and Northeast regions. She completed her B.F.A. in Acting at Salem State University and her M.Ed. at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Esayas Gebre

Esayas Gebre joined Volunteer Maine on January 20, 2026, as a Management analyst I, supporting program financial operations, budget tracking, and contract monitoring.
Prior to joining Volunteer Maine, Esayas worked with German development Organization (GIZ) in the capacity building program, where he supported logistic operation. He also served with the U.S Department of State as a professional Associate General Service Officer, managing overall logistics operations and supporting overseas departmental services.
Esayas Holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the university of Phoenix and bachelor’s degree in management from Admas University Addis Ababa.
Elizabeth "Liz" Theriault

Elizabeth "Liz" Theriault joined Volunteer Maine in June 2026. She is a communications and public policy professional with experience in political communication, social media marketing, and community outreach. As the Public Information Officer (PIO), Liz works to elevate the important work being done by nonprofits, community organizations, service fellows, and volunteers across the state as they dedicate themselves to supporting Maine communities. Through public engagement, community outreach, social media strategy, and media relations, Liz strives to grow awareness and visibility of Volunteer Maine’s programs, initiatives, and resources.
A native Mainer, Liz graduated with a degree in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Maine before moving to Utah to begin her professional career. In Utah, she worked as a Senior Policy and Communications Analyst for a city council, gaining experience translating political jargon into clear messaging, encouraging engagement and participation in the civic process, and building connections with communities through ongoing outreach. Liz is happy to be back in her home state and excited to put her experience to work supporting Volunteer Maine’s mission and helping advance its goals of strengthening Maine communities through service and volunteerism.
Liliana Hogan

Liliana Hogan joined Volunteer Maine in August 2026. She supports Volunteer Maine's staff in expanding access to community engagement opportunities and strengthening cross-sector coordination as an AmeriCorps VISTA and member of Maine's Ending Hunger Corps. Liliana also helps develop tools of these initiatives, including a future eligibility hub intended to bolster resource-sharing and statewide partnerships around food assistance and healthcare access.
Liliana graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Central Florida. As an undergraduate, she interned for The India Center at UCF, where she leveraged previous editorial and communications experience in support of newsletter and outreach development and social media engagement. Liliana is excited to draw on the skills and experience she has developed while contributing to Volunteer Maine's mission.
