AmeriCorps.
Three branches of AmeriCorps service active are in Maine. Use the links to explore details.
- AmeriCorps State/National is team-based, does direct service that helps communities and/or clients of the agencies who operate the grant program. It is open to anyone over 17 years old.
- AmeriCorps VISTA is the program that was created in the 1960s. Its members have a particular focus on fighting poverty through service that builds the capacity of local communities and the organizations that serve them.
- AmeriCorps Seniors is actually three programs: Senior Companions, Foster Grandparents, and RSVP. Each has a unique mission and applicants must be 55 or older. Two programs have income eligibility requirements.
Maine Service Fellows
The mission of the Maine Service Fellows program is to
- Provide rural, underserved communities with a resource to address critical needs;
- Increase the opportunities for recent college graduates to devote a year of service to communities and use their skills to make a difference;
- Attract and retain people with a passion for public service, especially in rural areas; and
- Strengthen civic engagement and community resilience by involving community residents as well as Service Fellows in volunteer-based solutions.
Maine Climate Corps
The mission of the Maine Climate Corps is to mobilize individuals to take action through formal volunteering and hands-on service. The aim? Move climate action strategies forward in Maine. Members service may be in one of eight focus areas, depending on the goal of the grantee agency:
- coastal zone
- transportation
- energy
- housing
- land and freshwater preservation
- community resilience
- education
- public health
Maine Ready
Maine Ready provides state, county, and other emergency response and management organizations a virtual way to coordinate offers of help with on-the-ground needs for assistance.
Volunteer Maine, in its role of coordinating volunteers during emergencies and disasters, accepts applications during "blue sky" times. We encourage applicants to get to know their community through other volunteering which prepares them by increasing local connections.
