Program Officer, Special Initiatives: March 2025

Major Projects:

  • Continued to create connections and collaborate with National Governor’s Association partners including Maine Rural Water Association, Department of Outdoor Recreation, Maine Youth for Climate Justice, Bangor Municipal Water, Bangor Public Works, and the Department of Labor
  • Onboard Maureen Kendzierski the new Volunteer Services Coordinator to take over tasks related to the Maine Service Fellows 
  • Invited 7Lakes Alliance to be part of the Maine Climate Corps Network
  • Contributed to a funding request for Bangor Savings Bank to support the Machias Maine Service Fellow 
  • Met three possible Executive Director choices for Maryalice’s position
  • Finalized budget for Maine Service Fellows and Maine Climate Corps with Maryalice before her retirement
  • Hosted in-person quarterly Maine Climate Corps Network meeting 
  • Tabled at the National Service Recognition Day event in the Hall of Flags 
  • Attended the ROOTS conference in Machias, ME and created connections for the Climate Corps Network and the Maine Service Fellows
  • Tabled at the Maine Sustainability and Water Conference and created connections for the Climate Corps Network and the Maine Service Fellows
  • Established a Green Employer’s Learning Cohort Training Fund for the Climate Corps Network to engage their members in professional development opportunities that align with Service Year Alliance’s grant goals
  • Confirmed keynote speaker for Maine Volunteer Leadership Conference in August
  • Met with the full Commission Board and passed policy on allowing current graduate students whose programs require a capstone/thesis/internship/externship to apply for the Maine Service Fellows
  • Updated host site supervisor and member handbooks and orientation decks
  • Updated host sites’ workplans to reflect the new start and anticipated end dates
  • Started working in Acting Capacity as the Program Officer for Special Volunteer Initiatives
  • Conducted screening interviews for Maine Service Fellows and filled Deer Isle/Stonington and Van Buren

Major focus of effort in new month/Ongoing:

  • Collaborating with National Governor’s Association and the Green Employer’s Cohort on Service to Career Pathways and training opportunities
  • Recruit programs for the Climate Corps Network including current AmeriCorps programs
  • Identify potential funding and training opportunities for the Maine Climate Corps Network
  • Tabling at the Climate&ME Youth Climate Summit – increase engagement with youth programs for the Climate Corps Network
  • Conduct Maine Service Fellows site visits
  • Plan for the Maine Volunteer Leadership Conference including developing a fundraising statement and engaging more donors 
  • Next virtual Climate Corps Network meeting 
  • Continue to collaborate with Resilient Maine – next quarterly report is due in April
  • Take Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Essentials training course
  • Learn how to be the records assistant 
  • Commission board meeting on the 18th
