State of Maine Climate Corps Coordinator - Immediate Opening
AUGUSTA, Maine – Volunteer Maine, the state service commission (government agency), is seeking a Climate Corps Coordinator to lead its nationally recognized climate programming. Overseeing Maine's Climate Corps, the coordinator will manage the development and implementation of local service projects addressing climate change, working with state and federal agencies to align community efforts. The role includes developing applicants, administering grants, coordinating training, and advising the Executive Director on policy matters.
Over the past three years, this work has become known nationally and Volunteer Maine staff have been asked to share our model, successes and approach in regional and national gatherings. THE POSITION:
The Coordinator is a member of the Commission staff. The person oversees development and implementation of Maine’s Climate Corps which is both a network of programs active locally and programs funded directly to conduct service projects that combat climate change. The person will work with the Commission program development and grant officers on developing applicants for climate corps programs and administering the grants after awards are made. The position must coordinate with multiple state and federal agencies whose individual policies and goals need to be synthesized in a manner that permits multiple community agencies to engage citizens as participants in the climate corps. The position monitors developments in climate science and tactics for responding, then communicates those to operating programs so they use the most effective methods. The position also works with the training officer to provide both grantee staff and corps participants with training that meets climate corps goals. The position will also represent the Commission on national climate corps coordinating committees as the Executive Director’s designee and advise the Executive Director on policies, practices, or legislative initiatives that will impact Maine’s climate corps success. The Coordinator is the program leader for Maine Service Fellows working in communities through the Maine resilience grant and is also the implementer for the Green Employer Cohort training grant supporting Climate Corps Network participants.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATONS:
A Bachelors Degree in relevant area and four (4) years of related work experience. A year of graduate education may be substituted for a year of related work experience. Not eligible for remote work during first six months but alternative work schedule is possible at the discretion of the agency. WORK ARRANGEMENT:
Office location is Augusta, Maine. This is a 6-month appointment with an hourly pay of $45/hr without benefits. The individual serving in the position can apply for the permanent position when the search opens in February 2025 (anticipated).
