AUGUSTA, Maine—Volunteer Maine Commissioner Tade Sullivan was featured as a panelist on the December 12 episode of Maine Calling on Maine Public Radio, titled “Useful Giving: Meeting Needs.” The discussion explored ways to give effectively during the holiday season and beyond by supporting organizations that address specific needs across Maine.
Sullivan, who also serves as executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine, joined Angela Stone, executive director of Maine Needs, to highlight the importance of targeted donations and volunteer efforts in the state’s rural communities. The episode emphasized the challenges many Mainers face in accessing essential services and resources due to the rural nature of the state, and the essential geographic barriers that follow.
“Maine’s volunteer sector plays a critical role in strengthening communities and ensuring that donations and service efforts are directed where they are most needed,” said Sullivan. “Volunteer Maine is committed to building capacity, funding service programs, and developing leaders in volunteer management to create sustainable solutions for Maine’s most pressing needs.”
Throughout the discussion, panelists and callers shared insights on the nuances of giving, such as donating furniture, diapers, and medical supplies, as well as opportunities for volunteers to make a meaningful impact. The conversation underscored the importance of thoughtful giving to maximize benefits for both donors and recipients. Listen to the podcast on the Maine Calling website.
