AUGUSTA – Volunteer Maine, the State Service Commission, honored Jenifer Tilton-Flood of Clinton at the annual meeting for election of officers. Tilton-Flood was appointed to the Commission in 2018 and, by 2020, was Chair-elect and then moved to lead the board as chair in 2021. She completed her two-year term as Chair in June and is succeeded by Luke Shorty of Winthrop. Tilton-Flood will continue to lead public policy work in her capacity as Immediate Past Chair.
During her tenure the Commission expanded programming, increased grant funding, and undertook several key studies including the role volunteer service programs could play in addressing climate adaptation.
Volunteer Maine is the state service commission, a state government body that is one of 52 commissions in states and territories. The governor-appointed Commissioners are a diverse, bipartisan group of citizens, actively engaged in community service, and represent every region of the state. The Commission builds capacity and sustainability in Maine's volunteer sector by funding programs, developing managers of volunteers, raising awareness of sector issues, and promoting service as a strategy to address community challenges.
