Grant Selection and Performance

November 2, 2018

PRESENT: Ed Barrett, Deborah Johnson, Joe Schmidt, Maryalice Crofton

Members met for the work session via teleconference. They convened at 8:35 am.

Discussion

The resume for the assistant Grant Officer had been posted for members review. There was a brief discussion of his experience. There were no concerns.

Review of tasks related to new grant applications and continuation applications. The difference between peer reviewers responsibilities and task force responsibilities for new application reviews was discussed. The task force has found it useful to organize itself into panels and have one review new applications while the other reviews continuation applications. Continuations are reviewed only by the task force. Each panel formulates recommendations that are brought to the public task force meeting. As a group, the members consider recommendations and discuss the factors involved. They formulate final recommendations to bring to the full Commission.

There are three calls for proposals open this fall. Submission deadlines are either November 30 or first week of December. Continuation applications from current grantees are due at the same time.

Members also discussed the need for additional members. Each agreed to approach another member of the Commission about serving here as well as on their assigned task force.

Peer reviewers’ credentials will be posted for members’ review later in the month. After review, task force members will indicate their support or concerns. The identity of reviewers is confidential until the grant selection process is complete.

Members confirmed the task force will continue to meet at 8:30 am on the first Friday of each month.

There being no other items on the agenda, the meeting closed at 9:18 am
