Communications Task Force

Members convened on zoom at 9:00 am

PRESENT: Diane Lebson, Maryalice Crofton, Mark Benjamin, Abigail Henry

Members shared volunteer experiences that were encouraging.

There was good news to report about the Public Information Officer position. Tilan Copson has accepted the position for a year. She starts on July 29. Diane has met her and gave a quick overview of Tilan’s experience. Maryalice will send her resume to the committee members.

Next discussion item was about content of a request for quotes to select a vendor for a pilot project that will test digital advertising placements. This work typically needs much more funding than the Commission has because the creative side is the labor intensive side. The final advice is to be upfront about the amount of funding for the project, the goals, and desire to put most of the funding into placement, the quotes that result should come from truly interested firms.

On a related topic, Diane explained that Commission task forces often have a set of volunteers who help carry out projects. For example, the Grant Selection task force has a set of vetted people who serve as volunteer peer reviewers during competitions but do not serve on the committee. The consideration for Communications is what skills and people could be approached to do the same for this task force? Members offered names of some firms. Discussion to continue.

Diane also noted that Mark and Abi were recruited to serve just one year. She will have personal conversations with each to determine if they would like to commit to another year.

The members agreed to skip a July meeting and pick up again in August.

Diane thanked everyone for contributing to the discussion and the meeting closed at 9:45 am.
