AUGUSTA, Maine–On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Volunteer Maine will bring together AmeriCorps members, service program leaders, and state officials for National and Community Service Recognition Day at the Maine State House in Augusta. The annual event, held in the Hall of Flags from 8:00 a.m. to noon, highlights the vital role of national service programs in addressing Maine’s most pressing challenges.
From 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., representatives from AmeriCorps and other service programs across the state will share stories of impact with legislators, policymakers, and guests. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with service members who are making a difference in Maine’s schools, nonprofits, environmental initiatives, and public health efforts.
At 11:00 a.m., a special program will take place, honoring Maryalice Crofton, retiring Executive Director of Volunteer Maine, who has dedicated 30 years to advancing service and volunteerism in the state. The program will also include a Commitment to Service ceremony, where newly inducted AmeriCorps members will take their pledge, led by Maine Supreme Court Justice Andrew Mead.
Maine has a rich tradition of civic engagement, with AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps Seniors programs providing essential services across all 16 counties. In 2024 alone, AmeriCorps members in Maine completed more than 91,000 hours of service at 61 community locations.
