State of Maine Executive Director - Immediate Opening
AUGUSTA, Maine – Volunteer Maine, the state service commission, is seeking a new Executive Director to lead its agency. After 30 years of invaluable service, Maryalice Crofton is retiring at the end of March, 2025. This position serves as the liaison to key external partners including federal agencies, state agencies, state legislature, federal delegation, other state service commissions, Maine Volunteer Foundation, and representatives of state and local service networks.
The Executive Director provides visionary leadership and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Maine Commission for Community Service (MCCS) which operates currently through the Maine Department of Education, though the agency is moving to the Maine Office of Community Affairs, a new agency which will launch this summer.
The Commission does business as Volunteer Maine and is one of the 52 service commissions across the country that strengthen service and volunteerism in their respective states. The Maine Commission for Community Service is the state government partner of the federal AmeriCorps agency. This position works closely with 23 governor-appointed Commissioners who are very active in the implementation of statutory duties that encompass policy, planning, grantmaking, evaluation, and partnerships that serve the needs of Maine’s volunteer sector and AmeriCorps programs.
The position is accountable for implementation of the strategic plan, management and development of staff, sound financial administration, and highly productive relationships with both public (federal and state) and private partners. In particular, the position ensures strong adherence to applicable federal and state laws, regulations, policies, performance standards, and procedures.
