Volunteer Maine Intern: June 2024
My name is May Whelan, and I am interning at Volunteer Maine this summer, under the supervision of Michael Ashmore, Program Developer and Trainer Officer of the commission. I am an incoming senior at Bates college, majoring in Economics and minoring in Spanish. My primary task this summer is updating the Volunteer Management Course to create a more cohesive, user-friendly experience and incorporating more Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion content into the curriculum.
Recent efforts:
- Completing sufficient research on new topics (particularly DEI training) to be included in the Novice Level Volunteer management course, as well as content to be updated.
- Familiarizing self with Adobe platform to improve course effectiveness and better the user experience.
- Translating course content from Microsoft PowerPoint to the updated Adobe Captivate.
- Acclimating to the office and familiarizing self with the commission’s roles and responsibilities.
Goals:
- Finishing Volunteer Management Course
- Attending conferences and meetings to absorb insight on Volunteer Maine and its impact.
